First we created a minute a sound clip with a combination of two songs from our artist to put in the background of our PowerPoint. My artist is Taylor Swift so I chose two songs from her latest album Speak Now, Mean and Story of Us. First I went to iTunes clicked preferences and import settings and changed to import using mp3. Then I highlighted the songs and went to advanced and create Mp3 to transform them into Mp3’s. Then I dragged both mp3’s into audacity in two separate files, and then I took 30 seconds of my favorite part of each song. Then I took one of the files, copied it and pated it into the other document right next to the first song. I then highlighted the last part of the first clip and went to effect and pressed fade out. Then, I highlighted the beginning of the other clip and went to effects and clicked fade in so that the two songs would mesh together well. After this I exported it as a WAV and then converted it to an mp3 in iTunes because a WAV is a bigger file than mp3.
The first slide is the title slide. I put the title, my name, and the date. I made the title a Brush Script MT Italic font because it looks like the font they used on her website. I also made the theme colors a turquoise green and light pink because I found those colors on her site. I then animated the title and made each letter come in separately but at a quick speed so it was not too slow. I made my name and the date come in from the bottom at a very fast pace as well.
The second slide is a facts slide about Taylor Swift. The titles are all the same font throughout the PowerPoint, however they are all animated to fade in quickly except on the first slide. I also used Adobe Hebrew as the other font throughout the PowerPoint to maintain consistency. In this slide the font is the turquoise green and then after each slide comes in from the bottom at a medium speed, it fades out to gray. This effect is to make sure the audience is focusing on the line I want them to. Each fact is next to a bullet, which is a picture of a little pink guitar; to do this I went to format, bullets and numbering then custom bullets and use picture. I also had a picture of Taylor Swift with a light pink border to match the theme colors and the little pink guitars, and I animated it in with a twirl.
The third slide is about her album. I brought in a picture of her album with a light pink border on the left first with a twirl animation. I then animated each song title and time separately with a quick fade in so it does not take to long and the audience does not get bored. The font is all Adobe Hebrew but the song titles are gray and the song times are light pink to create variety and stay in the theme colors.
The fourth slide was a comparison slide that compares Taylor Swift and two of her like artists, Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus. I clicked the icon for table and made 4 rows and 4 columns. The categories are Band, Album, Song, and Sold Copies. The categories all fade in at a quick speed, then the pictures symbolizing the band twirl in one by one at a quick speed, then the pictures that symbolize the Albums twirl in and appear from the center at a quick speed, then the pictures that symbolize the songs twirl in with a bounce at a quick speed, and lastly, the number of sold copies fades in at a quick pace.
Lastly, the fifth slide is a collage slide. I made my college in Photoshop and animated it there, then brought it into the PowerPoint. At the bottom of the slide I created a hyper link with Taylor Swift’s website; I went to create text box, insert hyperlink and I put a short friendly name in the display so the link would not show. Lastly, I changed the color tone of the display by going to format and then theme colors. First the title fades in fast like usual, then the collage comes up from the bottom, and lastly the link comes up from the bottom at a quick speed.
After the PowerPoint was done I inserted the sound clip into it and changed the setting to play over all slides. I then rehearsed the show so that I could change when the slide changes and when the music played during each slide. I made it so that the second song started during the transition to slide 3, the album slide. I also put in transitions after each slide; I used sparkle and vortex transitions that reminded me of Taylor Swift. On every animation I did I made sure that it started after the previous and not on click so that they whole slide show would run on its own.
I chose a band that is local and the lead singer is my best friend, Jesse Ramos. I chose the quadrant format for my band poster. Originally I was choosing between that and the Z format but the tree was centered and so is the picture of the guys in the band, so the type looked better centered. I like the centered images because I the person’s eye to drawn to the picture of the band and I think the eye was drawn more to the band members when they are centered rather than on the side or spread out.
For WQRI I chose Rockwell Extra Bold and put a stroke around it because I also made “Opener for Chris Webby” Rockwell Extra Bold and I put a stroke on it to make it more visible, I thought they should both have a stroke so that they match. are the color white to because they are less important than the actual band name “Brother Teresa.” “Brother Teresa” is yellow to make it stand out and it is also a different font, Ariel Black, to make it stand out. All of the lines except “Brother Teresa” are in all capitals because it looked better and again ads to the fact that the band name sticks out. The bottom font are all Arial Black to match the font that the band name is in but the first line “Roger Williams University Baseball Field” is yellow and the second line “Free Admission- 4/20/1012” is white to add variety and cut up the type at the bottom.
I first took an image of a tree in the sunset because the main singer, Jesse Ramos’ rap name is GRO and a tree symbols growing. In order to change it 50% I put the filter Ink Outlines on it, which is a strong filter that significantly changed the image. In addition I also cropped the image of the original tree so that the top of the tree is cut off making it look like the tree might possibly go forever. Then I took a picture of the band, which makes it an original image, I cropped them out of the original image and placed it on top of the tree. I decided to place them in the middle because the whole poster is centered and I want the picture of the band to be what your eyes are lead to by following the line of the tree. I put an inner shadow on the guys to make them pop out more and draw the eye to them. I also put a gradient overlay on them in order to make it appear like they were fading into the bottom of the poster.
I think Indesign is more complicated to use than Photoshop. It has a lot of the same tools but I think it would be much harder to manipulate an image. I manipulated my images on Photoshop and brought them into Indesign. I used Indesign for the text and I had no problems manipulating the text. I do not think this was the right project to use with Indesign because I could have made the text on Photoshop just as easily. I do not feel like I learned a lot about Indesign because all I did was manipulate text so I feel like I did not see the potential that the program has to do different things that Photoshop cannot do.
I started with an image of an eye, I used the crop tool and dragged the box centered around the eye to zoom and crop on the eye. I chose the eye because my quote is about the way people see beauty and love. I then went to filter and went to smudge stick. I then took an image of a heart made out of flowers to symbolize a beautiful heart and I used the quick selection tool to crop the heart out of the white background. I changed the layer to soft light so that the eye and heart blended together. Next I took a close up image of girl’s eyes with a white background, I changed the layer to soft light so the eyes would be lighter and look like they were peering through the heart. I then used the smudge tool to smudge out the white background so that it was not a perfect square of white around the eyes, and more blended. Next I took an image of me and my boyfriend kissing on a beach to symbolize love, I used the quick selection tool to just crop us out of the image, I then smudged around us so it did not look pasted into the image and blended better. I then took an image of a butterfly to symbolize beauty and cropped out the white background with quick selection and then smudged around it so it did not look pasted. I then took an image of a fist with “love” written on it to symbolize rough love and again cropped out the white background with quick selection and then smudged around it so it did not look pasted. I then changed the layer to soft light so it blended into the eye better. I then took an image of holding hands to symbolize togetherness and love, and again cropped out the white background with quick selection and then smudged around it so it did not look pasted. I then changed the layer to hard light to make the hands stand out to show the importance of love.
I created the first slide with only the close up image of an eye for a clean slate. The next slide I clicked on “the” by clicking eye so only “the” was visible. Next I clicked on “heart” by clicking eye so only “heart” was visible and clicked the image of a heart shaped by flowers and made it visible by clicking the eye. On the next slide I clicked the eye to make the picture of a heart made out of flowers visible to symbolize the word heart. The next slide I clicked the eye next to “can” to make it visible. The next slide I clicked the eye next to “see” to make it visible, I made “see” fade in by turning the transparency up on the first slide, a little lower on the next slide, almost no transparency on the third slide and no transparency on the last slide. Next I clicked the eye on for the word beauty, and on the next slide I clicked the eye next to the picture of the butterfly because the butterfly symbolizes beauty. Next I clicked the eye on for “love” and in the next slide I clicked the eye on for the picture of me and my boyfriend kissing, to symbolize love, and lastly on the next slide I clicked the eye next to the “&” symbol to tie beauty and love together. The next slide I clicked the eye next to “more” to make it visible. On next slide I also clicked the eye next to “more” to make it visible. The next slide I clicked the eye next to “than” to make it visible. On the next slide I made the word “eyes” and the picture of the girl’s eyes fade in together by turning the transparency up on the first slide, a little lower on the next slide, almost no transparency on the third slide and no transparency on the last slide. The next slide I clicked the eye next to “ever” to make it visible which then on the next slide curves around the word “wonder.”
I most proud of my original collage design, I really like the way everything fits inside of the eye, I think it is very symbolic. I also really like the way I made the word eyes and the picture of eyes fade in together by changing the transparency on different slides. If I had more time I think I would change the words and make them more visible. Overall I am very happy with the way my project turned out, and I am very proud of the animation.
Row 1- Row one is about DPI which is the amount of pixels per inch. Therefore more pixels in a compact space, the clearer the image. We edited the image and then selected the amount of DPI. We started with an image of 1200 DPI, we went to image, then size the changed the resolution to 600 DPI, then to 300 DPI, and then to 72 DPI. By 72 DPI the resolution quality is significantly worse. For print 300 DPI is professional.
Row 2- Row two is about changing the color effects. Color RGB is the normal color of the picture. We went to image, image size, and clicked off sample image to preserve pixels. We went to image then adjustments, right clicked and the adjusted the size. For black and white effect we went to image then adjustments and changed it to black and white. For the color CMYK, which is the print mode, we went to image then mode and changed it to color CMYK. Lastly, for duotone we went to image, then adjustments and made it black and white first so that we were able to again go to image, then adjustments and click duotone. Duotone was not an available action previous to making it black and white.
Row 3- Row three is about orientation. We started by un-clicking the resample image because as the resolution gets bigger, dimensions get smaller so there are not as many pixels per square inch. For portrait the height had to be longer than the width, we went to image and edited the size. The height is always one so that all of the boxes fit together and did not change the layout. We put a height of 1 and a width of .75, we dragged a selection box from the top to bottom because the image would change and zoom in if we did not. For the landscape the width had to be longer than the height. The height was 1 and the width was 1.333, we dragged a selection box from the top to bottom because the image would change and zoom in if we did not. For the square all sides had to be equal so both the height and width were one.
Row 4- First we made sure the picture had over 1000 pixels. My image was a city. We started with a height of 1 for every photo and then a width of 1.333 we made our first crop using the crop tool. We positioned the square in middle around whatever section we wanted to zoom in on. After this we cropped again the same way, got an image, cropped one more time and zoomed in on an image, my image was a clock. The clock in the original picture was barely visible in the cityscape.
Row 5- This row was about content, and taking a regular image and zooming so far in that the final picture is abstract. I started with a picture of an old woman holding flowers. I started with a height of 1 for every photo and then a width of 1.333; I made my first crop using the crop tool. I positioned the square in middle around the section I wanted to zoom in on. I cropped to get the wrinkles in her skin and if you did not see the original you would not know what the wrinkles were, making it abstract.
Row 6- Row six is about purpose, using different effects. I started with an image of Taylor Swift, I went to image and changed the dimensions to a height of 1 and a width of 1.333. Next, I went to filter and chose journalistic for the first picture, smudge stick for the second, sponge for the third, and Artistic-Palette Knife for the fourth.
These are my first draft and final draft of the font poem.
I feel like everyone is always concentrated on outer beauty and materialism. People choose their friends, their enemies, and their significant others initially by the way they look, then hopefully they make true opinions for the beauty or ugliness on the inside. Inthe same respect people buy makeup, buy designer clothes, buy fancy things, constantly battle losing weight, and go through surgeries and other things to alter the way they look all to be appealing to others on a purely superficial level. Admittedly, I have fallen into this game; I have bought clothes, cosmetics, and other material items in order to appeal to others. I know it is not realistic to get rid of these things but I want to get rid of all or at least some of the judging from the outside. I chose this quote because I want someone to see me for the things on the inside; for being devoted, determined, talented, and more.
The color I chose to accent throughout the quote is a light green to symbolize natural beauty. I chose to make heart bigger, a simple Palatino font, and green because the heart is where simple true beauty and love come from and it should be the only thing others are judging beauty by, rather than judging with their eyes and what they can see on the outside. I also chose to make see bigger and a bold striped green Impact font because people automatically resort to using their eyes to see beauty. I chose a Snell Roundhand font for beauty because it seems more delicate and beauteous. The world love is a Plantagenet Cherokee bold simple font because love is simple and true. It is also one of the most important words and it is essential that they eye be brought to it. I made the “&” simple green so that it would tie together beauty and love and bring the eye to those two words because I feel they are the center of the piece. The word more is bold to strain importance and give the feeling of getting more. The word eyes is a Rockwell Extra Bold font but is fading away because it is important to notice that the eyes should not be used to judge. Lastly wonder is a playful Bradley Hand ITC TT font because the font feels like it is about to wander away.
I curved beauty and love around the “&” symbol with an warp arch tool so that the eyes would be brought to them because they are the most important words in the quote and they are curved together to make a circle to show that they go hand in hand. See has a warped fisheye curve on it to make it look more three dimensional look to show all of the things you could potentially see if you got beyond what your eyes were showing you upfront and a gradient overlay to make the striped color. The word eyes has a gradient overlay on it to make the effect that the eyes are fading away because they are less important. Lastly, ever has a warped arch over wonder because the word ever seems long and I felt like the arch made it look longer while still joining it with wonder because those two words go together.
I am most proud of beauty and love but I also found them the most difficult and they are the two words that I worked on the longest. I feel like they truly compliment each other and make the whole piece more interesting. I also really like the way eyes were fading away; I think it really accurately represents the word. If I had more time maybe I would add a symbol of an eye or I would form the whole thing into an eye shape because I really liked the light bulb and shoe piece that were in those shapes.
